John’s first degree was in Engineering at the University of Cambridge He also has a Master’s degree in Information Management from the University of Lancaster. Until 2015 he was an occasional visiting lecturer at the school of Mechanical Engineering in the University of Leeds and he has lectured in the People’s Republic of China on electric vehicles.

He has written a book on electric vehicle technology published as “ICE-Free” in English in 2012 (ISBN 978-0957149502) with a parallel Simplified Chinese/English Edition published in 2013.

For the last eight years John has been involved in research into lithium-ion battery management and he was a co-founder of Intercal (UK) Ltd in 2014. Working with a widening group of collaborators including Indra Renewable Technology in Malvern and more recently Warwick Manufacturing Group based at the University of Warwick, Intercal has developed a highly innovative and effective battery management system. He is named as inventor in Intercal patents covering the USA, Europe and China.
