Alan YL Leong

Alan Leong, currently a Principal Scientist in PETRONAS Research, Group Technology & Commercialisation, plays a pivotal role in advancing non-metallic material solutions, specifically in the domain of composite materials.

Alan’s journey with PETRONAS Research started in 2007 as a research engineer. His early focus was on developing non-metallic repair and rehabilitation techniques for pipelines. Over the years, Alan has assumed the role of principal investigator and project leader for several collaborative projects with both local and international partners. In addition to research, Alan is also heavily involved in technology deployment.

He took on a technical leadership role as Principal Scientist in 2016, overseeing multitude of materials-focused projects. From 2022, he was tasked to lead the development of graphene for composites applications for the new Advanced Materials business, one of the new energy transition businesses of PETRONAS.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Manchester.
